How to use the Image to Text Converter

  1. Upload a clear image that contains text: a screenshot, a photo of a page, a slide or a sign.
  2. Choose whether to keep the original line breaks or join lines into paragraphs.
  3. Click Extract text, check the result against the image, then copy it.

What is an image to text converter?

An image to text converter reads the letters in a picture and turns them into real, editable text. The technology is called OCR (optical character recognition). Instead of retyping a quote from a screenshot or the notes on a whiteboard, you upload the image and copy the result.

This tool uses an AI vision model, which reads text the way a person would: it copes with different fonts, colored backgrounds and slightly tilted photos better than older OCR that only matched letter shapes.

What creators use it for

  • Turning screenshots into captions or threads. Grab the text from a note, a comment or a slide and reuse it.
  • Repurposing slides and carousels. Pull the text out of a carousel to write a blog post, newsletter or script from it.
  • Saving handwritten ideas. Photograph a notebook page or whiteboard and keep the ideas as text.
  • Quoting a book page or poster. Copy a short passage for a caption (and credit the author).
  • Translating text in an image. Extract it first, then paste it into your translator.

How to get the most accurate result

Do thisWhy it helps
Use the sharpest image you haveBlurry letters are guessed, and guesses cause typos
Crop to the text you needLess clutter means fewer stray words from logos or backgrounds
Photograph pages straight on, in good lightShadows and steep angles hide parts of letters
Use screenshots instead of photos of screensScreenshots have no glare or moiré patterns
Pick "keep line breaks" for lists and menusEach item stays on its own line
Pick "paragraphs" for articles and notesBroken lines are joined into readable paragraphs

Always proofread

AI OCR is very good but not perfect. Check names, numbers, prices and links against the image before you publish or send the text.

Handwriting, other languages and tricky images

Clear handwriting usually works well; very messy handwriting may come back with gaps or wrong words. Text in other languages is extracted as written, without translation. Very small text, heavy filters, text on busy patterns and text that wraps around curved objects are the hardest cases, so crop in and use the clearest version of the image you have.

Image to text vs copying text on your phone

Many phones can already select text in photos. Use whatever is fastest for you. An online converter helps when you are on a computer, when you want line breaks or paragraphs handled for you, or when your phone doesn't recognise the text.

Privacy and permissions

Your image is sent to our AI provider only to read the text and is not stored by us. Avoid uploading documents with passwords, ID numbers or bank details, and only copy text you have the right to use. Quoting a short passage with credit is very different from republishing someone else's work.

Want a caption for the image instead of the text inside it? Use the AI Caption Generator. Want to recreate an image with AI? The Image to Prompt tool writes a prompt from any picture, and the AI Image Generator turns prompts into images.

Frequently asked questions

Is this image to text converter free?

Yes. It is free to use, with no signup and no watermark.

What image formats are supported?

JPG, PNG and WebP. Large photos are resized in your browser before upload so the conversion is fast.

Can it read handwriting?

Clear handwriting usually works well. Very messy handwriting can come back with gaps or mistakes, so always check the result.

Does it translate the text?

No. It extracts the text exactly as written. Copy the result into a translator if you need another language.

Is my image stored?

No. The image is sent to our AI provider only to read the text and is not stored by us.

Why is some text missing or wrong?

Usually because the image is blurry, very small, angled or busy. Crop to the text and use a sharper image, then try again.
