How to use the Hashtag Generator

  1. Describe your post or video in a few words.
  2. Choose the platform and how many hashtags you want to choose from.
  3. Copy the list, keep the most relevant few, and paste them into your caption.

What do hashtags actually do?

Hashtags label your post. They help the app understand what it is about and let people who follow or search a tag find it. They are not a magic reach button: a relevant tag that describes your post well does more than a popular tag that doesn't.

This tool gives you a list to choose from: a few broad tags plus mostly niche, specific ones. Your job is to keep the ones that describe your post best.

How many hashtags to use on each platform

At the time of writing. Platforms change these rules, so check the official pages in Sources.
PlatformHow manyNotes
InstagramUp to 5 per postInstagram now limits posts to 5 hashtags. Pick the 3–5 most relevant.
TikTok3–5 work wellMix one broad tag with specific ones that describe the video.
YouTube2–3 in the descriptionThe first hashtags can show above your title. Too many tags can get them ignored.
LinkedIn3–5Use professional, topic-based tags.
X (Twitter)1–2Tags use up characters; keep them for topics people actually follow.

Instagram: 5 hashtags maximum

Instagram's Help Center says you can add up to 5 hashtags to a post or reel. Generate a list here, then keep only the five that describe your post best.

Broad vs niche hashtags

TypeExample (vegan breakfast)Why use it
Broad#breakfast · #veganTells the app the general topic
Niche#veganbreakfast · #smoothiebowlReaches people who care about this exact thing
Specific#highproteinvegan · #mealprepbreakfastDescribes your post precisely; less competition
Community / branded#yourname_recipesGroups your own series together

With only a few slots, lean on niche and specific tags. Broad tags are crowded, so a post with only broad tags is easy to miss.

Hashtag mistakes to avoid

  • Using tags that don't match the post. People who click a tag expect that topic; unrelated tags look spammy.
  • Copying the same block on every post. Choose tags for each post.
  • Using banned or broken tags. Tap a tag before using it: if the results look odd or hidden, skip it.
  • Hiding your caption behind tags. Write the caption first and add tags at the end.

Where to put hashtags

On Instagram and TikTok, put them at the end of the caption. On YouTube, add them to the description; the first ones may appear above the title. On LinkedIn and X, you can use a tag inside a sentence when it reads naturally.

Frequently asked questions

Is the hashtag generator free?

Yes. It is free with no signup.

How many hashtags can I use on Instagram?

Up to 5 per post or reel, according to Instagram's Help Center. Generate a list here and keep the five most relevant.

Do hashtags still help in 2026?

Yes, as labels. Relevant niche hashtags help the right people find your post. They won't fix a post people don't want to watch.

Why does the tool give more hashtags than I can use?

So you can choose. Keep the ones that describe your post best and drop the rest.

Should I use the same hashtags on every post?

No. Pick tags for each post. Reusing one big block looks spammy and often doesn't match the content.
