How to use the YouTube Description Generator
- Paste your video title and a short summary of what the video covers.
- Add the keywords you want to rank for, and choose whether to include a subscribe line.
- Copy a description into YouTube Studio, then add your own links and timestamps.
Why your YouTube description matters
Your description helps viewers decide whether the video is for them, and helps YouTube and search engines understand what it is about. The first two lines matter most because they show before viewers tap "more", and they can appear in search results.
YouTube allows up to 5,000 characters in a description, but you don't need to fill it. A clear, honest description that matches the video beats a long list of keywords.
The structure this tool uses
| Part | What it does | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| First 2 lines | Say what the viewer gets | Put your main keyword here naturally |
| Short paragraph | Adds context and related words | 2–4 sentences is enough |
| "In this video:" list | Shows the key points at a glance | 3–5 points, in order |
| Subscribe line (optional) | Asks viewers to follow | One line; make the reason specific |
| Hashtags | Label the topic | 2–3 relevant tags; the first can show above the title |
What to add yourself
The tool never invents links, timestamps or facts, because only you know them. After pasting the description, add:
- Timestamps (chapters) like "0:00 Warm-up". YouTube uses them to split your video into chapters when the first one starts at 0:00.
- Links to products, resources, your other videos or your social profiles.
- Disclosures for sponsored content or affiliate links, as your local rules require.
- Credits for music, footage or collaborators.
Keywords without keyword stuffing
Use the words people would actually search for, in normal sentences. Repeating the same keyword over and over, or pasting long lists of unrelated tags, can break YouTube's spam policies and makes the description hard to read. Add two or three keywords in the field above and the tool works them in naturally.
Use the description as a script summary
If you write a short outline before filming, paste it into "What does the video cover?". The description will match the video closely, which is what viewers and YouTube want.
Descriptions for Shorts
Shorts viewers rarely open the description, but it still helps YouTube understand the video. Keep it to one or two lines plus a couple of hashtags.
