How to use the Strikethrough Text Generator

  1. Type the words you want to cross out.
  2. Copy the strikethrough (or underline) version.
  3. Paste it into your post, bio, comment or message.

How strikethrough text works

This tool adds a combining long stroke character (U+0336) after each letter, which draws a line through it. Because it is plain Unicode, the line stays when you paste it into apps that have no formatting buttons.

Creative ways to use it

Strikethrough jokes and edits

  • I ~~need~~ want new shoes → I n̶e̶e̶d̶ want new shoes
  • Monday plans: g̶y̶m̶ nap
  • S̶o̶l̶d̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ Back in stock
  • Diet starts t̶o̶d̶a̶y̶ tomorrow

It works well for honest-funny captions, price drops ("$̶4̶0̶ $25"), and showing a change of plan. On Discord, Reddit and WhatsApp you can also use their own strikethrough formatting (~~text~~ or ~text~).

Readability

Crossed-out text is harder to read and screen readers may ignore the line. Strike a word or two, not a whole paragraph.

Frequently asked questions

Is this strikethrough text generator free?

Yes. It is free, needs no signup and works on phone and desktop.

How do I cross out text on Instagram?

Instagram has no strikethrough button. Generate it here, copy and paste it into your caption or bio.

Does strikethrough work on LinkedIn and X?

Yes. The line is part of the text, so it shows up in posts and comments.

Why does the line look broken on some devices?

Each letter gets its own stroke, and some fonts draw them with small gaps. It still reads as crossed out.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type leaves your device.
