How to use the Upside Down Text Generator

  1. Type your text.
  2. Copy the upside down version: it is flipped and reversed so it reads correctly when the phone is turned around.
  3. Paste it into your caption, bio or chat.

How upside down text works

There is no "upside down" button in Unicode, so the tool swaps each letter for a character that looks like it turned over (a → ɐ, e → ǝ, h → ɥ) and then reverses the order. Turn your phone around and it reads normally.

Fun ways to use it

Ideas

  • ʎɐpuoɯ ɐ ʇsnɾ s,ʇı (it's just a monday)
  • Australia posts: ¡ʎɐpɐƃ
  • ¿ʇɐɥʍ ʇnq (but what?)
  • A hidden answer in a quiz or riddle post

Not every letter has a perfect upside down twin, so a few use close lookalikes. Upper-case letters are converted to lower case first because flipped capitals are much harder to read. Numbers and common punctuation (!, ?, commas) flip too.

Keep it short

Upside down text is fun for a word or a line. Long paragraphs are tiring to read and screen readers can't make sense of them.

Frequently asked questions

Is this upside down text generator free?

Yes. It is free, needs no signup and works on phone and desktop.

How do I type upside down on my phone?

Phones don't have an upside down keyboard. Type here, copy the flipped text and paste it where you want.

Why is my text also backwards?

So it reads correctly when you rotate the screen 180 degrees, like real upside down writing.

Does it work on WhatsApp and Instagram?

Yes. The flipped characters are normal Unicode text.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type leaves your device.
