How to use the Username Generator

  1. Type your name, nickname or the topic of your page.
  2. Choose the platform so the ideas follow its rules, and pick a style.
  3. Copy your favourites and check if they are free in the app.

How to choose a good username

Your username is how people find, tag and remember you. The best ones are short, easy to spell after hearing them once, and connected to your name or niche. A clever username nobody can type is worse than a simple one.

This tool suggests a mix of name-based, niche-based and short brandable usernames, and every idea follows the rules of the platform you choose. Availability changes all the time, so always check in the app before you decide.

Username rules by platform

Rules at the time of writing. Check the official help pages in Sources if a username is rejected.
PlatformLengthAllowed charactersGood to know
InstagramUp to 30 charactersLetters, numbers, periods, underscoresNo spaces; can't end with a period
TikTokUp to 24 charactersLetters, numbers, periods, underscoresCan't end with a period; can be changed again only after 30 days
YouTube handle3–30 charactersLetters, numbers, underscores, hyphens, periodsShown as @handle; must be unique

Choose Works everywhere if you want the same username on every app. Those ideas stay under 24 characters and only use letters, numbers, periods and underscores.

Tips before you claim a username

  • Say it out loud. If you have to spell it ("maya, then underscore, then…"), people will get it wrong.
  • Avoid long strings of numbers and repeated underscores. They look like spam and are hard to remember.
  • Think long-term. "mayabakes" still works if you start posting travel; "mayabakes2026" won't age well.
  • Claim it everywhere. Even if you only use one app now, grab the same username on the others.
  • Don't copy a brand or another creator. Similar names cause confusion and can break platform rules.

Username taken?

Add a short word that fits your page: "the", "real", "studio", "hq", "with" or your city. "maya.bakes.austin" is still easy to read.

Display name vs username

On Instagram and TikTok your name (display name) is separate from your username. The name can include spaces and capital letters, so use it for your real name or a keyword ("Maya | Easy Baking"). Want it in a fancy style? Use the Font Generator, but keep your keyword in plain text so search still finds you.

Got your username? Finish your profile with the Instagram Bio Generator or the TikTok Bio Generator.
